Steel places can be submersed in water while they are plasma cut

Precision Plasma Cutting

Mulcahey, Inc. has two CNC controlled plasma cutting machines. Both units are programmed from our customer's classical drawings, DXF or CAD files. The steel plates can be submersed in water for cooling purposes while they are cut. The varieties of shapes that can be cut by a CNC plasma cutter are almost limitless. Our Plasma Cutting Machines have the capability of cutting 1-1/4 inch thick carbon steel, 1 inch thick stainless steel and 1/2 inch thick aluminum.

Although plasma cutting has been around since the early 1940's it is still by far the most economical way to cut a variety of metal shapes accurately. By utilizing our plasma cutting system guided by highly accurate CNC cutting machines we are able to produce highly accurate profiles with superior cut quality and minimal heat affected zone or distortion.

A plasma cutter works by sending an electrical arc through a gas field that is flowing through a restricted nozzle. The electric arc elevates the temperature of the gas to the point that it enters a plasma state. The plasma exits the nozzle at high speed. The electrical conductivity of the plasma arcs to the metal being cut completing the circuit. The high pressure plasma cuts through the molten metal.
